Minor UD & and a Bit O' Commentary

First the project update. Things are going smoothly for the most part. I have created life, it works with a fairly good accuracy and functions to a minimal degree. Everything is still text driven (GUI is the last step for me). I am trying to add in the ability to search for groups of words (EX: this AND that) which is a bit frusturating at least. Until the next update then.

Time for banter. I just wanted to give a shout out to all my homies that get a long three day weekend (like me might I add) and give a "nah nah nah nah nah" to all those who don't. Just kidding, I feel for ya. By some small miracle I managed to work out a way to get out of work tomorrow. Which means 3 full days of freedom - blessed freedom. What great plans do I have for my long weekend you might ask, well I plan to clean off a couple computers, format them and reinstall their operating systems. I might just work on my program a little more. And of course what I am going to be doing the most of is spending time with my fiance. Yep, I know whupped for sure. I admit that there is that element, but truly I do enjoy spending time with her. Well today's note is running a bit long, so I'll cut it off for now. If I get a chance, I will post my exploits this weekend. Look forward to that!

Long time no UD

No update for a while (5 days, what a record!). Today's update is to let you all know that I am figuring out my dilema about the dictionary (list) values. I am half way to a working version. Watch here for the first breaking news story. I plan on creating a sourceforge version of my project for other people to enjoy. You will find the link here as soon as I take the time to do so.
Today is a good day.

Project Update

Expect to see more and more of these little - almost self reminders - that I call project updates. Today's update (which is also coincidentally a Rant Of The Minute [ROTM]) is to say that I am incredibly frustrated at the way that Python handles dictionaries and list within dictionary values. Unfortunately the format (feedparser) that I have decided to program in has deserted me when it comes to simply parsing out values from an RSS feed. I am forced to use a combination of dictionary values and array values in confusing ways when dealing with the data set that is outputted by feedparser. An example of the madness:
data['feed'][0]['value'][0]['link']
Now, some would argue that it should be easy to simply iterate thru each portion of the recordset, but therein lies the problem - how am I supposed to predict which values were used for the dictionary references?? I am in deep now, some nights I wake up at 1 or 3 with visions of program running in my head, which reminds me of the days of my youth when I would stay up until 1 or 3 am doing nothing. Kinda makes me wish that I had spent that time learning Python, then maybe I wouldn't be having the problems that I am having now.

Well your time is up for today, until next time.

Project Update

For those of you that read the last few bits I have blogged, you may have noticed that I am undertaking a programming project to see just how difficult it will be to parse rss/xml documents from Bit Torrent sites and create a custom filter to automatically download and launch new matching files. The primary purpose of this is to determine if the torrent needs to be downloaded or if it should be skipped instead. There are a few other rss parsers out there, but none offer a clean easy to use solution, mine will.
Now when I say will it means that this is not my primary focus, I still have to hold down a job and prepare for my wedding (July 10th, 54 days left!). This means that I only spend about 30 minutes to an hour per day writing this program (mostly first thing in the morning - which does not yield my best results).

Until the next time I find a few minutes.

Since Nobody Helped...

Just kidding, I know that me and like 2 other people actually read this blog (an neither of the other 2 care about what I program). I think that my plans to create an RSS reader are starting to come together. My first progamming language (attempt)is Python. Wish me luck.

By the way

For those of you that have been following my 'incoherent rants' for a while now may have noticed my new Rant Of The Minute (probably to be reduced to ROTM in the future). This idea has effectively replaced my 'things that are currently pissing me off' idea from this post.

Also, found a VERY useful site with all sorts of RSS Torrent Feeds at varchars.com

My Next Venture - Help Requested

While reading a very interesting article about RSS feeds and Bit Torrent, I decided that since there was a significant lack of these types of content aggregators I would write my own. Now there is a new twist on a new favorite. I am taking suggestions in the comments section of this post only.

Also, please tell me what you do not want as well, this will help me determine the direction that I will be programming in. Something that I am NOT interested in which programming language you want it in. At this point I am not concerned with that so much as what it'll need to do.

Rant of the Minute

This post illustrates what a "Rant of the Minute" post will typically be like. This rant is about my lazy, vacation hording, piss me off, boss. There was this big rush to hurry up and get the CD done - so I did and now he has been sitting on his ass about it for 4 yiffing weeks! Also, he wanted me to put together a new website, something classy and quick...emphasis on quick - so I cranked him out a very fashonable website and told him it was ready. What does he do? He tells me he took a look at it and he wants to change some things - I ask what - he says he will look again and make a list...no word now for almost 4 weeks.
Which begs the question.

WHAT WAS THE YIFFING RUSH?!?!?

This has been a Rant of the Minute.

What? Where did that come from?

Through my meanderings, I stumbled upon this where I found a very good picture of an emporium. With a little creative license, I altered it a bit and stuck it on my blog for all to see. Enjoy it, I know that I will.
What? You don't know what the Steve I am talking about? Why it is that picture on the left, the one that says Mr. Me's Emporium of course. Silly.

Man I am lazy

It may come as a surprise to all of you, but I have been tragically transformed from the night loving person of my youth into an early rising 'morining person' - ick. It makes me ill, so much so that I sit around all morning and do almost nothing. Don't hate me cuz I am lazy, it is so natural...

Still Working

Well I am still (some what miraculously) employed. Whether my job performance has actually risen to the minimum 125% requirement (or higher?) has yet to be seen. My boss's good mood is most likely due to the good time he had on his 5 day vacation...

Wealth Meter Test

$4.00

I just whipped up a simple wealth meter, it may get more fancy in the future, but I found a couple of minutes this morning to put it together so I did.

Did you notice?

Did anybody notice that I didn't post anything over the weekend? Well it was probably because I was busy and lazy. This weekend I made my own jello shooters (in an ice cube tray of all things) and tried a couple of them (not bad all and all). Also, my neiese's first birthday was yesterday so I did a lot of running around trying to get a present and such. I know it doesn't sound like a lot, but that is why I said that I was busy and lazy. Well, I still gotta finish gettin ready for work, I'll let you know how today goes. See April 27th for more info.
